Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor: a Key Gene Risk Factor and Potential Therapy Target in Bipolar Disorder

چکیده
Bipolar Disorder (BD) is a worldwide, multifactorial mental disorder characterized by manic and depressive symptoms of varying degrees. Among all the genetic risk factors correlated with BD, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) has emerged as crucial neutropin that influences BD susceptibility strong conservative across species multiple downstream signaling pathways. However, mechanisms how BDNF polymorphism can contribute to are not yet lucid systematically reviewed. Val66Met variant capable inducing neurodegenisis Long-term Depression (LTD), both which account for pathogenesis in BD. The associated rapid cycling episodes Another variant, Arg125Met potential elicits neuronal apoptosis affecting maturation BDNF. In this paper, we briefly summarized epidemiology, symptoms, structure, its action function. We reviewed various detail provided insights into possible clinical treatment targets. been proven be noteworthy gene therapy targeted on promising therapeutic strategy requires further research.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor and neuroplasticity in bipolar disorder.
Initial descriptions of bipolar disorder (BD) emphasized that patients returned to a baseline condition after acute episodes. Such definitions were operational in teasing bipolar disorder apart from schizophrenia, where patients were described to be permanently impaired after the initial episodes. However, this view of BD as a disorder where cognition and overall functioning was spared has been...
متن کاملBrain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor Val/Met Polymorphism and Bipolar Disorder
Background/Aims: The substitution of valine by methionine in the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF Val/Met) gene alters the intracellular trafficking and regulated secretion of BDNF. This study tested whether the BDNF Val/Met polymorphism is associated with bipolar disorder in Korean subjects, and whether clinical features vary according to genotype. Methods: The allelic and genotypic dis...

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a syndrome causing from a severe traumatic happening that leads to threatened death or injury. PTSD is associated with changes in limbic, hippocampal, and prefrontal cortical region function due to changes in synaptogenesis, dendritic modifying, and neurogenesis. Changes in neuron in PTSD patients result from pathophysiological disturbances in inflammato...
متن کاملSymptom Dimensions and Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor Val66Met Polymorphism in Obsessive-compulsive Disorder
Background: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a serious neuropsychiatric disorder. The clinical prominence of the OCD symptoms dimensions and Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) Val66Met polymorphism are of significant importance. Objectives: The present study aimed to investigate the symptom dimensions and BDNF val66Met polymorphism genotype in Iranian patients with OCD. Materia...
متن کاملAssociation of the Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor Gene and Clinical Features of Bipolar Disorder in Korea
OBJECTIVE Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) plays an important role in cell survival, differentiation, and cell death as well as in neural plasticity. Recent studies have suggested that BDNF is involved in the pathogenesis of bipolar disorder. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of the genetic variations of the BDNF gene with bipolar disorder in Korea. We also studie...
